MiniMomo is almost 6 months old!

Here is the first update in a long while. I haven't posted interesting events in his life thus far, so I will generally list them now:

*February 2010: Andre celebrated his first Losar (Tibetan New Year). He also took his first big chuckles.

*March 2010: I returned to work, and Andre stayed at home with dad and Granny. MiniMomo began enjoying being read to and started making use of his hands more.

April 2010: Andre started to eat his first baby foods and took a particular liking to green peas (just like me)

May 2010: Andre began the phase of putting things into his mouth. His Holiness the Dalai Lama came to town and Andre was given the rare honor of getting a blessing from him. HH the Dalai Lama also gave him a special name: Tenzin Thamdo

June 2010: MiniMomo is now babbling and rolling around. He can nearly crawl!

Andre Can Coo

Andre visited my husbands' family for the first time this weekend. He seems to have had lots of fun meeting new people.

So the latest update that I've got at 2 weeks old is that MiniMomo -- I mean Andre -- can now coo. I am not sure if it is normal for a 2 week old to begin to coo and make expressive noises, but it's fascinating. Maybe it's also gas, who knows, but I think it's cute.

He has a really firm grip and really seems to observe a lot more now.

His hair is beginning to become wavier and browner and his eyes are turning more gray. We still don't know what any of that means.

We, the parents, are still pretty tired...

I can't wait until he has new milestones.

The Birth of "MiniMomo"

Long time no post! There is a lot of updating to do.

We found out that MiniMomo was a boy around the 21st week of pregnancy. We had a hard time deciding on names, so we continued to refer to him as MiniMomo until birth. At 39 weeks and 4 days, I gave birth to "MiniMomo" whom we named Andre Jamyang Andrugsurba on 12/27/2009.

His labor was very fast, taking exactly 4 hours from start to finish (started at around 5:30pm, got to hospital around 6:30pm, gave birth at 9:30pm on the dot). I must say that I have to thank whoever is responsible for the effectiveness of epidurals, because it put me out of a lot of misery. Contractions were bearable until around 7:00pm and I begged for medicine. Momo was there the whole time and was excellent with support (thank you Momo). Since I got the epidural, the pain totally went away with contractions, but I was not prepared for the actual pain involved in pushing which the epidural did NOT numb (and if that's the numbed version that I felt, I don't want to know what the unmedicated version feels like). I wasn't aware of how impossible it feels to push a human out, but luckily the pushing aspect only lasted 10 minutes before MiniMomo arrived. :)

He was a very healthy little boy and strongly resembled his father at birth.

Soon after, we were able to hold him. These pictures were taken a few minutes after birth.

Later on, we were able to view him a little better.

...And even better a few days after that.

He seems to be able to communicate pretty well for someone just born. He recognizes what feeds him and grabs at them/opens his mouth when he sees them if he's hungry, and recognizes our voices when he hears us (looks up or becomes calm...he associates food with my voice and starts signaling to feed him).

MiniMomo is now a week old. We're getting the hang of things and so is he. He is a very pleasant, reasonable baby and only asks for what anyone else would ask for -- meals, warmth, and clean diapers.

We are getting used to his eating and sleeping schedules which goes in about a cycle every 3 hours of sleep, wake up and ask for food by making "eh" noises and grabbing/sucking, asks for diaper changes if we haven't already noticed, and then looks around to take a break and silently observe his surroundings (it seems like he may have green eyes) before falling asleep again. He seems to be a content baby and if I didn't suspect gas, I'd think he has learned to smile at us already (he does this while awake and looking at us when we play with him).

I'll try to keep updates of his milestones.
